My friend was running behind on schedule to pick us up from the train station, so my fiancee and I stopped by Katie O'Byrne's to get dinner in the meantime. The service is a bit slow, but the staff members are quite friendly and it's a bit hard to get mad at them as most of the waitresses are my mother's age. They're trying their best and are very motherly to their customers. I ordered the Irish Reuben Sandwich ($16.50) and subbed for Sweet Potato Fries (+$1). The sandwich tasted great and the substitute was well worth it. The fiancee ordered the Fish N Chips ($18) and it met expectations.
We love Katie O'Byrnes . the ambiance, the warmth, the reasonable and consistently good food, and we come often with friends and family. We would like to make 2 suggestions for upgrades: the side salad yesterday consisted of mostly tough stringy endive, with grape tomatoes and dukes, which would easily improved with leafy fresh lettuce greens or romaine. Second, consider an upgrade to the tired, rough grey plastic plates which detract from the presentation of the food offerings. These changes would make it a perfect, 5 star review!
Food, service and ambiance are all top notch. The fish and chips consists of two large pieces of fish and a nice portion of fries. The Shepard's pie was amazing, nice mix of everything and the Mac and cheese with pulled pork was phenomenal! Portion sizes are great and prices are good too.
Another absolutely delicious order from this place! I got the pulled pork Mac and cheese. Let me tell you, when I grabbed my bag to go I was pulled back how heavy my bag was. When I got home, I opened it & let me tell you this could feed like 4 people. The food is mouthwatering, so so so good. The service is excellent. And as soon as you walk into the place it's homey. The restaurant is beautiful, the people are great. Will always come here.
Went for some wings after a meeting before I caught a plane back home. Loved it. The atmosphere was just what I wanted, small pub style. The wings were good. I had a beer and it was exactly what I needed The staff was friendly, I will be going again. I come to Schenectady several times a year from the Great State of Texas. Keep doing you!
Katie O'Byrnes has long been a place I take visiting family in the cold winter months, when on the hunt for warm comforting food and a cozy, bustling-neighborhood bar atmosphere. The portions are always impressive [the size of the fish fry especially seems to give surprise-cartoon-like eyes to the table] and the Shepherds Pie, Corned Beef & Cabbage, and Reuben have all been hits with our guests who can't pass up the Irish-American specialties in a setting such as Katie's. Late this summer, after being reminded of how great the outdoor space is during the Schenectady Tater Trot earlier in the season, we stopped by for beers on the patio and found ourselves impressed, declaring Katie's another great location for outdoor happy hours with friends. Being next to the Schenectady Amtrak station and near the corner of Erie and State makes an ideal spot for taking in the sounds and sights of downtown Schenectady. I LOVE that Katie's hosts live music, both inside and out depending on the season, and have enjoyed a variety of genres and styles from various musicians during my visits over the years. You can also find weekly Trivia on Tuesdays at 7:30, paired with a taco special. The service has always been welcoming, with staff offering recommendations and friendly-banter with our tables and while ordering at the bar. We will be back, especially for more patio time in the spring!
Solid spot in Schenectady, right near the train station. I have been there twice and I ordered the same thing each time: The apple pecan salad with chicken. The salad tastes fresh and I enjoy the sweet pecans. The chicken was tasty. Husband ordered Turkey burger with sweet potato fries and said it was excellent. It was not crowded in a Saturday afternoon, but on my previous visit on a Friday night it was pretty busy. Service was polite. I wouldn't come here looking for gourmet food, but it does a ni e job with burgers, sandwiches, and Irish pub fare.
Great place, service, food, and mediocre beer choices. The service was attentive, and we were able to get in and out within an hours time since we had additional plans. My haddock fish wrap was tasty, and so was the crispy sweet potato fries were delicious.
